The first FIFA ranking of the year 2024 was released yesterday, Thursday April 4. Africa’s top-ranked country is Morocco, which has lost one place worldwide. 12ème in the last ranking, the Atlas Lions are 13thth worldwide, followed by Senegal and Nigeria, 17th and 30th in the world rankings. Mali, 8th African wins 3 points in the standings, moving up to 44th place. The country’s last two friendly victories over Mauritania and Nigeria were undoubtedly a factor.
Unsurprisingly, reigning world champions Argentina remain at the top of the FIFA rankings. Despite losing 2-0 to Germany during the last international break, France are still in second place. The main change in this ranking concerns the 3ème place. England, who drew with Belgium, lost third place to their opponents, Belgium.
In Africa, the leader of the podium remains Morocco (13thth second only to Senegal. Nigeria, which has lost two places worldwide, closes the podium. Egypt, which also fell by one place worldwide (37th in the world), is 4th African. Côte d’Ivoire, the reigning African champions, move up one place in the FIFA rankings to number 5.ème African. Tunisia, Algeria, Mali, Cameroon and South Africa occupy the last places in the top 10 African nations respectively.
After winning their last friendly matches against Mauritania and continental runners-up Nigeria, the Mali national team moved up three places to 44th position. On the other hand, there’s nothing to move for the Eagles at African level. They keep the 8ème as in the previous ranking.
In the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking for the month of April, Indonesia made the best progress (134th), conceding 8 places, thanks to two victories over Vietnam in the FIFA 26 World Cup qualifiers. Qatar and Comoros are at the top of their game, achieving the best ranking in their history.
