His masterful volley opened the scoring for Stade Brestois 29 in the derby against FC Lorient on December 20 (4-0 final score). 6 months later, our midfielder’s goal was voted “most beautiful goal of the season in Ligue 1”.
It was the icing on the cake, crowning a magnificent evening for the Brest team at the 32nd UNFP Trophies ceremony. After Éric Roy was voted best coach, and Pierre Lees-Melou and Bradley Locko members of the “XI type”, Kamory Doumbia won the award for the most beautiful goal of the season thanks to his exceptional volley against Lorient.
“A jewel among jewels”
Despite stiff competition from the likes of André Ayew (acrobatic turn), Téji Savanier (outside volley) and Teddy Teuma (long-range shot), our number 23 made the difference and won the trophy over the other nominees. A goal for the ages, and in a derby to boot!
“I watch the video every day”
Inevitably happy to hear his name, Kamory stepped up to the microphone with a smile on his face. Spontaneously “Toupie” utters this sentence: “I still watch the video of my goal every day!” And for good reason: his volley, voted goal of the season, was the first of his fantastic four-goal haul. All the more reason to mark the evening in style.
