General Mody, a member of the Niger junta, arrives in Bamako

The second-in-command of Niger’s ruling junta, General Salifou Mody, arrived on Wednesday in Mali, whose military leaders have expressed solidarity with their Nigerien counterparts in the face of international pressure, two senior officials said. General Mody, the former army chief of staff who was sacked in April and is a member of the group of soldiers who have just taken over Niger by force, has travelled to neighbouring Mali at the head of a delegation, a senior Nigerien official and a senior Malian security official said on condition of anonymity. These sources did not detail the purpose of the visit.
